DRIFT
The body quiets the mind — not the other way around.
You have tried to quiet the mind. Sat with it, closed the eyes, waited. The narration that runs underneath everything you do did not go quiet — it adapted. It always does. The reason has nothing to do with discipline. The inner voice runs on the same working memory you use to walk, see, and count. Asking it to stop is asking the system to disable a process it has no other use for.
What it does
DRIFT does not ask. It runs three loads in parallel during an ordinary walk — a slow, deliberate footfall; a gaze fixed on the farthest visible point with the periphery left open; counting aloud in threes. Each load draws on the same network the inner voice uses. Held together for ten minutes, the network has nothing left over. The voice is not suppressed. It is displaced.
What changes
The state settles in about three minutes and deepens around fifteen. The body keeps walking. Sounds arrive more distinctly — not louder, more separate. The friction that usually accompanies "trying to be present" drops out, because nothing is being tried. After you stop, the silence holds for fifteen to thirty minutes. The walking lightens for hours.
Where you run it
The protocol takes 15 to 20 minutes. It runs outdoors — a street, a long park path, a corridor — anywhere you will not need to decide where to go. No equipment, no application, no audio required. It works on day one. The only thing that changes with repetition is how quickly the silence arrives and how long it holds after you stop.
Where it fits in the series
DRIFT is the first protocol of the OVERLOAD GATE series. The series operates on one principle: load a channel of perception past the ceiling at which the mind defends itself, then use the cleared space. DRIFT loads the body. FLOODGATE loads speech. CONSTRUCT loads vision. IMPRINT installs one prepared statement into the body in the open window after collapse. DRIFT is free because the method has to be felt before it can be described, and once it is felt, the rest of the series is the same method scaled.
Heritage
The protocol is one thousand years old. It is older than walking meditation as it is taught today and does not require any of its vocabulary. What you get is a walk, a method, and a state that returns every time you run it.
Launch — 3 min
Begin the three channels one by one until all are running at the protocol's tempo.
Triple Load — 10 min
Hold all three channels in parallel. Notice which one keeps trying to drop out — that one is leading the inner voice.
Stop — 2 min
Discontinue the loads in reverse order. Stand still. The state continues without effort.
OVERLOAD GATE
For the practitioner who already tried the quiet way.
